The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in New York City. First active from 1965 to 1973, their best-known members were Lou Reed and John Cale, who both went on to find success as solo artists. Although never commercially successful while together, the band is often cited by many critics as one of the most important and influential groups of the 1960s.The Velvet Underground first gained a degree of fame and notoriety in New York City in 1966 when they were selected as the house band for Andy Warhol's Factory and his Exploding Plastic Inevitable events. The band's lyrics challenged conventional societal standards of the time, and broke ground for other musicians to do the same. The band favored experimentation, and also introduced a nihilistic outlook through some of their music. Their outsider attitude and experimentation has since been cited as pivotal to the rise of punk rock and, later, alternative rock.________________________________________Jenny said when she was just five years oldThere was nothin' happenin' at allEvery time she puts on a radioThere was nothin' goin' down at all,Not at allThen one fine mornin' she puts on a New York stationYou know, she don't believe what she heard at allShe started shakin' to that fine fine musicYou know her life was saved by rock 'n' rollDespite all the amputations you know you could just go outAnd dance to the rock 'n' roll stationIt was alrightIt was allrightHey babyYou know it was allrightIt was allrightJenny said when she was just bout five years oldYou know my parents are gonna be the death of us allTwo TV sets and two Cadillac cars -Well you know it ain't gonna help me at allNot just a little tiny bitThen one fine mornin' she turns on a New York stationShe doesn't believe what she hears at allOoh, She started dancin' to that fine fine musicYou know her life is saved by rock 'n' roll,Yeah, rock n' rollDespite all the computationsYou could just dance to that rock 'n' roll stationAnd baby it was allrightAnd it was alrightHey it was allrightIt was allrightHey here she comes now!Jump!
